Experience the Spirit of the Old West at the Kokernot o6 Ranch
The Kokernot o6 Ranch, one of the largest working ranches in Texas, spans two of the state’s largest counties. Established in 1912, the ranch continues to operate much like it did over a century ago—with cowboys riding horseback to round up and manage cattle. Its dramatic landscapes, featuring deep canyons and towering mountains, offer some of the most breathtaking views in the region.
Privately owned by the same family for over 100 years, the o6 Ranch remains largely inaccessible to the public. However, as a participant in the Shooting West Texas Photography Workshop, you’ll be among a select few granted access to this iconic piece of the American West—offering a rare opportunity to photograph a living legacy.
The ranch has been featured on RFDTV’s Cowboy Authentic and Country Roads, and even inspired a short film by Waylon Jennings. Watch Waylon’s tribute to his time on the ranch here: YouTube link.
Autumn marks a pivotal season on the ranch, when cowboys drive approximately 3,000 head of cattle down from the high country across its vast 180,000 acres. During the workshop, you’ll capture dynamic scenes of the roundup, from cattle in the pens to the sweeping drives across rugged terrain. You’ll also have opportunities for classic cowboy portraits and night sky photography under the clear West Texas stars.
This workshop offers a truly immersive experience into the historic cowboy lifestyle—an unforgettable adventure you’ll preserve through your photography.
